Tecnifibre T Rebound Tempo 270 Racket Review

The T Rebound Tempo 270 is quite an interesting concept as it is slightly shorter than a standard racket, with the idea of making it easier to handle for beginner players.

We see a lot of rackets these days that try to sell beginner players extended length rackets with an oversized head, but not too many that go the other way.

If you’ve read any of my reviews of oversized rackets, then you know I’m not a big fan of this idea.

In my opinion, the main thing beginners need to do is learn to create their own power and spin.

An oversized racket that cheats for you in this regard and is not very helpful.

That’s why I like this idea of the T Rebound’s shorter frame and normal 100 sq. inch frame.

Instead of giving you an easy route to a little bit of spin and power, the T Rebound gives you manoeuvrability and control over your racket.

This should help beginners to develop their strokes more quickly and develop their own spin and power.

The T Rebound comes in at 270g unstrung and is about half an inch shorter than a standard racket, so it is very manageable for someone learning the game.

When you start out in tennis, you don’t want anything too heavy while you’re leaning the strokes, so the T Rebound Tempo 270 is a good option.

Tecnifibre has decked this stick out in a pretty eye-catching black, blue and pink paint job that’s fairly unique and makes a change from their normal red, white and blue.

Without wanting to portray gender stereotypes, this racket is aimed slightly more towards women.

I find this a bit of a shame because, with these specs, this racket could make a good first adult sized racket for a younger boy, or some beginners.

Whether a 12-year-old boy would be too excited about rocking up to practice with a pink and blue racket is questionable though.

The T Rebound 270 comes with Super Light Cap, which takes away some of the extensive bumper material you see in other Tecnifibres to reduce weight and add to the manoeuvrability.

It also uses ProActive String Pattern, which launches the ball at a slightly higher angle – something that is useful when trying to learn topspin.

As a 28-year-old man who’s played tennis for the past 20 years, the T Rebound 270 is not the ideal racket for me, but I was interested to see how it would play.

I like the idea of simplifying rackets rather than overcomplicating them and that seems to be what Tecnifibre have done with this racket.

Groundstrokes

Warming up in the box, the T Rebound was exactly what I was looking for.

It was extremely manoeuvrable and well balanced and that helped me focus on hitting through the ball.

This stick is 2PTS headlight, so there is slightly more weight towards the handle than the head and this makes the racket very easy to swing.

Moving to the back of the court, I found it easy to get into a rhythm, keeping my strokes nice and short and swinging through the ball with plenty of energy.

As we started to up the tempo a bit, the T Rebound did lack the kind of stability I would look for in a racket, but for 270g it didn’t do a bad job.

The 16 x 19 string pattern gives you an extra little bit of control over a more traditional 16 x 18 and I was able to get plenty of topspin to create a nice flight path.

While the shorter length frame didn’t make any difference to my timing, it did feel very compact and I felt like I had a lot of control throughout the swing.

This is an important aspect when you are beginning tennis. It can be quite hard to feel exactly what motion you are making with the racket.

With this Tecnifibre, it was much easier to control the racket head and have some idea of what was going on.

If you’re just starting out, and you’re using something huge like the Head Graphene 360 PWR Speed, then you can pretty much close your eyes and hit the ball, but you’re not learning.

On the backhand side, I really enjoyed the feel of the T Rebound and worked on increasing my racket head speed; hitting through the ball with power and speed.

The ProActive String Pattern which launches the ball at a slightly higher angle also encouraged me to hit with a good flight path, resulting in great depth.

Off the forehand side, I could have done with a little bit more control.

I did have to slow things down a lot, but this is to be expected.

What I’m looking for in a racket is completely different to the qualities of the T Rebound and it was never going to suit my forehand.

What the T Rebound will do though is make for a great racket for a beginner.

The T Rebound 270 is light enough that anyone can easily make the correct motions but stable enough to give the player some good feel.

I think this would make for a very good first racket for a junior as they progress their game and step up to a more advanced racket.

The important thing in tennis is to develop a good base technique from which to develop.

If you try and move forward with the wrong technique, then eventually you are going to find yourself limited.

What the T Rebound does is encourage players to develop the right way.

It won’t give you crazy easy power and spin, but it will allow you to develop your stroke and create your own, natural power and spin.

This racket is great for a beginner, and I would certainly recommend youngsters to try it.

As an overall racket, it is limited to a small group of people. It will suit that group, but as an overall score, I have given it a 7.5 out of 10 for groundstrokes.

Volleys

The volley is a shot that can be particularly difficult when learning tennis.

You don’t have much time to react and this can make getting the racket in the right place very difficult.

The T Rebound is a good place for beginners to start because it is very manageable.

It moves quickly through the air and because it is not too large you feel like you are in control of the movement.

For its weight, you get relatively good control, which means you can punch through the ball without it pinging to the back fence.

In general, lightweight rackets don’t absorb power very well, so it can be difficult to maintain control when the ball is hit at you really hard.

As you would expect, this is true with the T Rebound, but it has better stability than many of the rackets in its class.

I enjoyed the balance of this racket at the net and felt pretty comfortable when I was playing easy volleys.

This is exactly what you need for learning to volley and I would certainly recommend it to a beginner.

I gave the Tecnifibre T Rebound Tempo 270 another 7.5 out of 10 at the net.

It is very compact and easy to manoeuvre, which makes it ideal for learning the basics of the volley.

Serve

7out of 10

The slightly shortened frame of the T Rebound makes it very manageable to swing.

But the serve is an area where length can make a difference.

Many a player has benefited from an extended length racket on serve.

This is simply because the ideal trajectory to hit the serve at is straight down.

The shorter you are, the more you have to hit the ball up to hit it over the net, and this loses you valuable power.

However, when you’re starting out in tennis, I don’t think this is a big issue.

As I said earlier, the most important thing is to learn a solid technique that is going to serve you well in the future.

To do this, you need to be playing with a racket that you can control and feel comfortable swinging with.

The T Rebound is exactly that.

Did I find it difficult to generate the same kind of power on my serve that I would normally get?

Well yes, but that’s not the point.

This racket is designed for a very different type of player to myself, and I think it does its job very well.

With the T Rebound you will be able to get a lot of racket head speed, and it gives you enough pop to put your opponent under pressure.

It might not give you the same kind of easy power as some other beginner rackets, but in the long run, you will be better off for developing proper strokes with this racket.

Once again, the T Rebound proved to be a great little racket.

I preferred it on the groundstrokes and volleys though, so I gave it a 7 out of 10 for the serve.

Overall

7.5out of 10

All in all, I think this is a very good beginner’s tennis racket. It allows people to develop their strokes until they are ready to move up to a slightly more advanced racket.

It is well balanced and is as comfortable at the net as it is from the back of the court.

In a time when many beginners are drawn to gimmicky oversized rackets, it’s nice to see that there is a viable option out there with a normal sized head.

I think this makes for a far better racket to learn the game with and will result in much faster improvement.

Overall, I gave the Tecnifibre T Rebound Tempo 270 a 7.5 out of 10.

It did pretty much everything it promised to do and was a very enjoyable playtest.

It’s definitely not one for more advanced players but would certainly make for a very good racket for a beginner.
